KLM is committed to keeping its environmental footprint as small as possible. However, washing an aircraft calls for more water than the bucketful you use to clean the family car. Nevertheless KLM has developed a way of keeping water consumption to a minimum. The method is called the semi-dry wash and saves as much as eight million litres of water each year. In this video KLM employees show how to clean aircraft and hangar floors in an environmentally friendly way.
Washing takes place during technical maintenance in the hangar. So there is no need for the aircraft to spend extra time on the ground. After washing, the hangar floor is cleaned with enzymes. What remains is 100% biodegradable.
