Number 1 on the DJSI for the 10th Time
AIR FRANCE KLM is pleased to confirm its leading position as best airline on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the tenth consecutive year. For the sixth time, we have also been listed as the Industry Group Leader Transportation*), a number 1 position of which we are extremely proud and which confirms the validity of our approach.
Remaining in top position is no easy task. In this case it is a benefit that our competitors in this sector are certainly not standing still. Nevertheless, we are proud to continue to hold the leading position.
The DJSI is an indication of the quality with which any organisation integrates its sustainability policy. It is all about the three Ps: People, Planet and Profit. Simply put, it means safeguarding the continuity of the organisation by turning a profit without losing sight of its surroundings. According to the report:

The company continues to demonstrate sustainability leadership in the transportation space, building on its long-term commitment to reduce its environmental impact while increasing operational eco-efficiency. Through innovative programs, the group engages its customers on sustainability issues, integrating their feedback into its product offerings and communication strategies. AIR FRANCE KLM remains a leader in the commercialization of sustainable biofuels and has partnered with organizations such as SkyNRG, Boeing and local governments in Europe to invest in a viable, profitable production base for biofuels in Europe. The group takes a clear stance on key issues such as air traffic control, regulations in the air transportation market and the climate protection ambitions of the IATA and ICAO. On the social front, Air France-KLM measures and manages its economic impact at the destinations it serves, focusing on developing local economies, engaging with local stakeholders and upholding human rights”.

We focus on four important themes: Reducing our impact on the environment, integrating sustainable developments in our products and services, promoting a responsible personnel policy, and making a sustainable social contribution.
Each day produces new insights and technologies that allow us to do more and more or to improve what we are doing. It is our ambition to continue to be the most sustainable airline—now and in the future. In initiating and stimulating new and innovative developments, KLM once again this year operated a series of flights using sustainable biofuel. And, in December 2013, it entered into a partnership with UNICEF. The development of flights using biofuel would not be possible without the partnership that KLM has developed with a variety of organisations that are part of KLM’s Corporate BioFuel programme.
These results have helped AIR FRANCE KLM to maintain its leading position as one of the 24 most sustainable companies in the world.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index is an international gauge for the performance of companies that place sustainability front and center in their strategy and business operations. Each year, the number of participants around the world reporting about their economic, environmental, and social activities grows. This creates a broad image of the development of sustainability around the world and among the sectors in question. Together with Air France, KLM has shown its ability to take a leading role over the past years in placing sustainable development in civil aviation on the agenda.
